GENERAL INFORMATION
- Age. The minimum age for children entering the Pre-Reception class in September is 3 years and 8 months.
- Meeting the Child. Before September you will be invited to bring your child into school for a short session. During this time your child will be able to play and to familiarize himself/herself with their future environment. They will also be able to meet the staff and to socialize with their prospective classmates.
- School Uniform. The Pre-Reception children are expected to wear school uniform.
Our Pre-Reception is based on the U.K. Department of Education's Early Learning Goals
This foundation stage curriculum is organized into six areas of learning.
- Personal, social and emotional development.
- Language and literacy.
- Mathematical development.
- Knowledge and understanding of the world.
- Physical development.
- Creative play.
Your children will be learning these essential skills in a carefully organized environment, fulfilling their needs in a stimulating, practical and enjoyable way. This will develop their cognitive, physical, social and emotional abilities.
Personal, social and emotional development
This area promotes :
- Interest and motivation to learn.
- Confidence.
- Concentration.
- Sensitivity to others.
- Respect for their own and other cultures.
- Ability to work as part of a group.
- A moral understanding.
- Personal hygiene.
- Independence .
Language and Literacy
This area promotes :
- Listening to and using spoken and written language.
- Sequencing and clear thinking.
- Vocabulary.
- Speaking clearly and audibly with confidence.
- Naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet.
- Understanding that print carries meaning.
- Re-telling narrative in correct sequence.
- Pre-Reception will also have oral Greek sessions on a daily basis.
Mathematical Development
This area promotes:
- Saying and using number names in order.
- Reliaby counting everyday objects up to 10.
- Recognizing numerals 1-9.
- Using mathematical language such as “more”
“less” " lighter” “heavier”.
- Using vocabulary such as “adding” and “subtracting” in practical activities.
Knowledge and understanding of the world
This area promotes :
- Investigation of objects and materials using the appropriate senses.
- Identifying some features of living things, objects and events observed by the children.
- Looking closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.
- Questions about why and how things work.
- Building constructions using a wide range
of objects.
- Finding out about past and present events in their own lives.
- Knowledge of their own cultures and beliefs.
- Finding out about their environment.
Physical development
This area promotes :
- Moving safely with confidence and imagination .
- Movement with reasonable control and co-ordination.
- Awareness of space both for themselves and others.
- Recognition of the importance of keeping healthy .
- Recognition of changes experienced when actively engaged in physical movements.
- Using a range of small and large equipment.
Creative Play
This area promotes :
- Exploration of colour, texture, shape and form.
- Recognition and exploration of how sounds can be changed, singing songs from memory.
- Responding in a variety of ways to what they see, smell, hear, touch and feel.
- Imagination in art and design, music, dance and imaginative role play.
- Expression and communication of their ideas, thoughts and feelings.

- Our day starts at 7:50a.m. and finishes at 12:30p.m.
- Children who have older brothers or sisters in school can be supervised until 1:05p.m
