The Junior School plays a central role in the social and moral development of its pupils as well as in their academic progress. All children are expected to adhere to our Code of Conduct which is based on a short list of practical rules (as set out in the Contact Book)
Good behaviour and courtesy are required at all times. Anti-social behaviour is not acceptable. Pupils are encouraged to develop a positive attitude towards their individual behaviour and to be responsible for their own actions both inside the school and outside in the play areas.
We endeavour to create an environment in which honesty, good manners, respect and consideration for others are of paramount importance. There is a mutual respect between staff and pupils which fosters a caring attitude throughout the school.
Parents are informed immediately should any problems arise. If, for example a child is having difficulty with his/her schoolwork, their parents will be contacted. Likewise, should any problems arise with social relationships, the child’s parents will be notified. Concerns such as these will be addressed by the school and the parents working together as a team.
Co-operation between staff, pupils and parents enables us to promote a hard-working but happy atmosphere throughout each school day.
We take pride in our pupils` behaviour and we continue to enjoy a reputation for providing a caring establishment.
The Junior School Ethos
The school ethos provides a stimulating, caring and secure environment in which all children are encouraged to fulfill their potential.
We aim to prepare children for life in an international community, developing their sense of open-mindedness, an appreciation of and respect for one another’s differences, and the ability to make responsible choices. This approach is especially important for two main reasons. Firstly, our pupils have to learn to interact with children from different cultures and social backgrounds during everyday life at school.
Secondly, our pupils` futures will involve being part of a wider international community where they will be expected to display the qualities which we are encouraging them to develop.
A State Registered Nurse is on duty daily. The Medical Room is in a convenient location where children can be sent for treatment. The school nurse informs parents of any accidents, or of any symptoms, which might require urgent attention. She also patrols the playground during the Lower School break times in case of any accidents.
The school also has contact with a consultant child and adolescent specialist counsellor. She works closely with the school at recommended times.
