HOMEWORK POLICY
Homework is an essential and complementary part of the school programme, providing the opportunity for pupils to organize their time and to study on their own.
Homework should be written down by the pupils in their Contact Book.
Homework should be properly planned and organized so that:
a. Children are not expected to do too much on one day and not enough on another.
b. The tasks which are set are realistic within the time available.
c. Tasks are clearly related to the work children are doing in school and are not too difficult or too easy.
d. Children are given feedback on their homework.
EARLY YEARS/ AND KEY STAGE ONE HOMEWORK POLICY
Every child in KS1 visits the library on
a weekly basis. Children are encouraged to take
home fiction and non-fiction books to read/share
with their parents.
Pre-Reception
Every half term the Pre-Reception team send home a list of suggested activities and songs related to the topic taught in class.
During the second and third term some children begin to take home reading books and flashcards.
Reception
In the Reception classes children take home reading books and flashcards on a daily basis.
Literacy and Numeracy homework is also sent home every week to reinforce the concepts taught in class.
Towards the end of the first term children take home a list of words to learn for weekly spelling tests.
Holiday homework consists mainly of reading and reinforcement of sight words.
Year 1 and Year 2
In Year 1 and Year 2 children are expected to read their reading books on a daily basis.
Numeracy, Literacy and Greek Homework is also set on a weekly basis to reinforce the concepts taught in class.
Every week a list of spelling words is also sent home for the children to learn.
Holiday homework in Years 1 and 2 consists of reading and practical assignments.
